NSF proudly celebrated World Science Day for Peace and Development 2025 on 4th November 2025 in Colombo, under the inspiring theme “Nature-Inspired Technology for Sustainable Development”. The event served as a meaningful platform to honour the power of science in advancing peace, sustainable progress, and the wellbeing of people and the planet.
Graced by Hon. Chrishantha Abeysena, Minister of Science and Technology as the Chief Guest, the ceremony welcomed a vibrant gathering of scientists, educators, policymakers, students, and over 750 participants, with many more joining virtually. The celebration showcased the creativity and scientific spirit of the younger generation, recognising 295 outstanding awardees for their achievements in science and innovation. The keynote address delivered by Prof. Hiran Amarasekara, Professor in Forestry and Environmental Science at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, highlighted the critical role of nature-based knowledge and technology in shaping a resilient future.
Adding to this honour, the International Science Council (ISC) featured NSF Sri Lanka’s celebration on its global ‘Map of Activities’, which highlights worldwide events conducted by ISC Members, Fellows and Partners to commemorate World Science Day. As a Category 1 Member of the ISC since 1968, NSF’s presence on the map recognises its international visibility and commitment to promoting science as a driver of peace, justice, and sustainable development.
This recognition reflects NSF’s continued dedication since 2002 to strengthening public engagement with science and nurturing a culture that values innovation, sustainability, and national development.
