Science and Technology Management Information System (STMIS) is a computerized information system developed and maintained by the NSF since 2004. The STMIS database contains information on S&T related institutions, S&T personnel, research publications done by individual scientists etc.  STMIS recorded 7528 registrants by the end of 2024. The STMIS circulation facility was introduced in early 2020 to disseminate information covering scientific courses and events, grant calls and other career opportunities for the benefit of the scientific community. This facility is now popular among the scientists who are organizing scientific events to publicize their updates and also among the beneficiaries of receiving such information.

National Research and Development (R&D) Survey measures and reports the status of research and development activities in the country in terms of resource deployment and outputs generated. The Survey covers mainly four sectors namely, Government, Higher Education, Business Enterprise and Private Non-profit Organizations Sector. Based on the Survey, Statistical Handbooks on Research & Development of Sri Lanka are published entailing R&D input and output indicators.  As the recent publication, 'Statistical Handbook on R&D of Sri Lanka 2022' was published based on the National R&D Survey 2022. While recognizing the importance of having up to date Policy in the field of Biotechnology, the NSF initiated reviewing the current National Biotechnology Policy which had been prepared by the NSF in collaboration with the National Science and Technology Commission (NASTEC) in 2009.   The Policy was reviewed with the expertise of the NSF Sub Committee on Biotechnology which came under the NSF Committee on Science and Technology Policy and the inputs from a wide range of stakeholders.  Amendments proposed to the existing policy through these exercises will be submitted to the National Science and Technology Commission of Sri Lanka (NASTEC) to be incorporated into the next version of the National Biotechnology Policy. 

The statistical handbook encompasses financial and human resources devoted to Research & Development (R&D) and also some output indicators of the R&D sector. This statistical brief covers the whole R&D sector of the country namely, State Sector R&D institutes, Higher Education Institutes, Business Enterprises and Private Non-Profit organizations.
