


The National Science Foundation in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo organized a webinar on ‘How AI is helping reverse paralysis?’ on 17th November 2025 via Zoom. Dr Dinesh Palipana, Senior Lecturer, Australian Centre for Precision Health and Technology and Assoc. Prof. Claudio Pizzolato, School of Health Sciences and Social Work - Exercise Science, Griffith University, Australia were the resource persons of this webinar. At the beginning of the webinar, the audience was welcomed by Dr Sepalika Sudasinghe, Director General of NSF and the opening remarks were delivered by Dr J.G. Shantha Siri, Additional Director of NSF while Prof. Vajira Dissanayake, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo moderated the Q & A.
The webinar presented inspiring information on how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming possibilities in neurorehabilitation and supporting efforts to reverse paralysis. Dr Palipana, a medical doctor and researcher, brought powerful personal and professional insight into recovery from spinal cord injury, while Prof. Pizzolato contributed pioneering work in AI-driven Biomedical Engineering and digital twin technologies that he is engaged in. The discussion and Q & A which followed focused on opportunities for capacity building and technology advancements in this field of research. This webinar was attended by around 36 participants comprising of undergraduate and postgraduate students of higher educational institutes, researchers from universities and R & D Institutions and healthcare professionals.
