We’re excited to share a short video highlighting outputs of a NSF research project on Polyethylene-degrading fungi isolated from decaying hardwoods in Sri Lanka. This innovative work, co-funded by the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) and the National Science Foundation (NSF), is yielding promising outputs in the global fight against plastic pollution.
These fungal strains exhibit remarkable potential in degrading polyethene, one of the most persistent plastics in the environment. The findings could pave the way for sustainable biotechnological solutions to plastic waste management.
