The National Science Foundation inaugurates work in the new year 2025 coincide with the launch of the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ national programme.

The National Science Foundation inaugurated its functions for the new year on 1st January 2025 coincide with the ceremonial launch of the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ national programme at the Presidential Secretariat.

At a ceremony held at the NSF premises, the Chairman of the NSF Prof. Saman Seneweera hoisted the National Flag while the Director General Dr Sepalika Sudasinghe hoisted the NSF Flag. Afterwards, the Chairman and the Director General addressed the NSF staff where they underlined that NSF would work as a one team unleashing its great potential to make a significant contribution to socio-economic development through science, technology and innovation in line with the national priorities hence making the government vision a reality. Thereafter, the staff joined the official ceremony and launching of the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ national programme online which was held at the Presidential Secretariat and showed their commitment by giving the oath. The NSF will be committed to propel the government vision towards science, technology and innovation as well as the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ initiative which aims to address a cleaner physical environment and a nationwide moral commitment to enhance ethical principles. Enhancement of the three pillars of sustainability; Economic, Social and Governance (ESG) has been identified as the framework to address the overarching objectives of this strategic plan with specific stakeholder goals, actions, timelines and outcomes.

The ceremony ended with blessings of venerable Maha Sangha where a brief ‘Pirith chanting’ was held.
