The Natonal Science Foundation Invites applications from local authors, science communicators, and researchers for financial assistance under the Publication Grant Scheme for Promoting Science and Technology Publications.

Objectives:

  • Encourage authors to write science and technology publications in Sinhala, Tamil, and English (priority for Sinhala and Tamil).
  • Increase availability of locally written reading materials to promote science literacy among school children, youth, and the general public.
  • Support publications that address local issues, transfer research findings, and explain modern technologies in simple language.
  • Generate supplementary reading materials for STEM education, including science activity books, fiction, and storybooks.

Eligible Publications :

  • Supplementary readings for school science education.
  • Books on scientific theories and concepts explained in simple language.
  • Science activity books, handbooks, guides, and student manuals.
  • Science fiction and children's science storybooks.
  • Manuscripts must be original, creative, and written for a wide audience.

Funding Support :

  • Grants up to Rs. 500,000/ per publication (reimbursed basis).
  • Covers typeseting, editing, design, printing, and ISBN registration.
  • Authors must provide 30 copies to NSF and distribute part of the stock as per the approved plan.

Application Guidelines

  • Submit application with manuscript (soft & hard copies) and estimated printing budget.
  • Applications should be sent to: Director General, National Science Foundation, 47/5 Maitland Place, Colombo 07
  • NSF logo and sponsorship acknowledgement must be displayed in all publications.
  • Applications from authors previously funded will be reconsidered only after two years.
