This grant scheme provides an opportunity for scientists with recent Ph.D. or equivalent qualifications to carry out full-time research within the country for up to 2 years. These grants are awarded in all fields of Science & Technology after a comprehensive evaluation by the NSF. The applicant should be fulfilled the following criteria.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicant should be a citizen of and residing in Sri Lanka. Applicant should be registered with the STMIS database of the NSF and committed for fulltime research.
- Should have a PhD (obtained within 02 years) from a recognized university.
- Proven research, development and innovation experience (Publications in refereed journals, patents etc.).
- Merit of the research Project addressing an issue identified as a national research priority.
- The duration of the research project should not exceed 02 years.
- Availability of laboratory space and facilities at the host institution to undertake the proposed research work (assurance from the Head of the Institution is required).
If facilities not available should provide assurance from the available institute that this facilities institute that this facility will be granted to the research. - Availability of a collaborator from the relevant industry, is an added advantage

Please submit your application through newly established NSF Grant Information Management System (GMIS) (https://gmis.nsf.gov.lk) online.
Entitlements:
- Monthly stipend of Postdoctoral Research Scientist is Rs. 125,000.00.
- Research Expenses up to Rs. 1,000,000 per year up to 2 years (needs justification)
Incomplete and late applications will not be processed.
Decision of the National Science Foundation will be final.
