The National Science Library and Resource Center (NSLRC) is the national hub for collecting, processing and disseminating science and technology information in the country. The main function of the NSLRC is to strengthen communication and information networks by implementing programs to enable exchange of scientific information between scientists in Sri Lanka and foreign countries. It also facilitates efficient information dissemination to the scientific community using modern information and communication technology.

In order to cater to information needs of the scientific community, a collection of books is maintained in the form of local and foreign research and technical reports, scientific policy statements, innovations, etc. Also, the resource pool is comprised research theses, local and foreign scholarly journals, and conference papers.

Also, the NSLRC maintains a national collection of science-related information to help Sri Lankan researchers and academics accessing science and technology information on current and past research in the country. NSLRC conducts programs to promote science and technology libraries and information services at national level and develops and maintains databases.
